Ahlan Ya Ramadhan

I know it's a little bit too late for a post welcoming the favourite month in Islamic calendar, Ramadhan. But since lately my mind has not been able to retrieve any interesting thing to be jotted inside my blog, not that the previous posts have been interesting anyway, I would rather say: controversial. What am I? An artiste worthy of a controversy? That will be the last situation that I want to be in. Personal matters should remain personal, but of course getting to know somebody else's matter is as interesting as it would get, passing gossip and remarks about other people's personal lives. Not that our life is that flawless or is it?

Speaking in the high spirit of Ramadhan, I want to say the first night of Ramadhan was the night when I would draw a circle up above my head. Oh yeah, that was the only night which I went for tarawikh together with the community of Taman Sutera. At least after I found out that there will be a slot for ceramah in between the only eight rakaat worthy of tarawikh, I backed off. Not that I enjoy the pleasure of having to stop halfway to hear the ceramah, but certain topics should be made hardcore educational if it would want to attract people, not just some empty talks: and jokes should not be overly fitted inside ceramah. It's kind of inappropriate for me.

But yes, there are things which I do not like but might as well bring more good to the community. Afterall, it is just me who missed the other nights of Tarawikh at the Surau, perhaps the ceramah held after my absence are more interesting? Guess first impression works on me.

Speaking of my track record of fasting, that will be rather difficult to explain . Not that I should list all the things that I would accidentally do during this fasting month, but I would say it is pretty an achievement that this year I have not forgotten that the days are the days when you obviously should not eat or drink. I remembered my younger days (oh, that sounds as if I am too old), when I bought a chocolate from a shop and accidentally took a bite out of it. The awkward faces from the people around, not to forget my very own friends' reminder of the fasting month has just started. It is common.

Ironically, in the month where we should be deprived of food and luxury, the bazaar is overloaded with all kinds of foods and delicacies which are hardly visible during other months other than Ramadhan. I should say, that will be one of the things which I love about the month. Tasty food for fast breaking (not breakfast). And Kurma, a date which hardly eaten in other months. And this year my parents bought Tin fruit. at-Tin (the Fig). It is very sweet, not that I have wide range of vocabulary to explain how it tasted though, but you should try it once in a while. As for the picture:

O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off (evil); (183)

(Fast) a certain number of days; and (for) him who is sick among you, or on a journey, (the same) number of other days; and for those who can afford it there is a ransom: the feeding of a man in need - but whoso doeth good of his own accord, it is better for him: and that ye fast is better for you if ye did but know - (184)

The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful. (185)

Al-Baqarah Verse 183-185.

Why do Muslim girls have to wear hijab (tudung)?

If you want to ask me why Muslim (people who has Islam as their religion) girls have to wear hijab, I would say, it is to prevent her from getting harassed by irresponsible man. But please wear the hijab correctly if you are a girl. To me, wearing a hijab correctly for a muslim girl is by covering all her hair, leaving not even a single hair exposed to man other than her husband and relatives.
